I just can not even begin to express how sick and tired I am of this shitty weather! Since October of last year I’ll bet we have not had more than 2 weeks worth of clear skies! I’m not even really concerned about the temperatures, I can deal with cold weather, though these dark, overcast, rainy days are really starting to wear on me.
Me and my wife have a two year plan / goal in place to be outta here within 2 years. The thought of packing up and leaving this miserable state behind is looking better and better every day!
Listen, I hate being a downer, but enough is enough already!
We did manage to drag ourselves out into the rain over the weekend. Despite feeling completely blahhh…, I managed to focus on capturing a few really nice shots!
This first shot was captured in the heart of the Nay Aug Gorge, which by the way is probably one of the most amazing city parks in America! This place is not your typical park, though it does have park features like a pool, playground and picnic areas near the entrance. Though the real attraction here is the gorge with naked hiking trails, look outs, bridges, water falls and shear drop offs! When I say naked I mean this place is about as raw and as dangerous as a city park can get!
So back to the first image! It’s hard to tell, though I am about 75′ up. During the summer daredevils jump off the point at which I am set up at through the narrow cut and into the base of this waterfall. The ledge in the forefront is another point even higher yet that is occupied by dare devils during the hot summer months.
Unfortunately at about the same time I began getting into photographing my environment the rain began falling a little to hard for my liking. Hiking out I grabbed one more shot of a scene that had caught my eye on the way in. This lonesome Mountain Laurel, our state flower / plant. If we had made this trip a week earlier this entire area would have been saturated with the white and pink flowers from these gorgeous plants.
Nay Aug has amazing numbers of bird, of just about every species you can think of. So if your a bird spotter, which really am not, Nay Aug is right up your alley. Despite not being a bird spotter I still appreciate viewing and photographing them when the opportunity arises. Especially when they are fairly uncommon, like this red winged black bird. Which by all means is not a rare species, but is not a species that I see around very often.
This is another shot of a Red Winged Black Bird, with a Finch also in the frame below where the black bird is perched. I really like the contrast in the photo. The black bird with it’s small spot of orange sets this entire image off.
And that about wraps my rainy weekend up. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you loving mothers out there and until next time, keep your eyes to the sky and cameras focused!
